“Maybe, but you love them, and they love you. Love’s hard to come by, Edward; you should never throw it away just because it’s a bad idea.”
The Harlequin are the hush-hush vampire police force for the Council. So why are they in St. Louis?
The book starts out with Anita and Nathaniel on a date and from the beginning, Anita knows something is going on. Especially when she receives a white mask in a box at the movie theatre. Throughout the book, the Harlequin tease, test, and screw with Anita, Jean Claude, Richard, Micah, Nathaniel, and anyone they can get ahold of. Anita gets so scared, she calls in her longtime friend/foe Edward to help.
Richard finally managed to piss me off so much with his crap in this book, I’m moved from the “want him to quit being a jerk and get with Anita” camp to “you are the worst person ever, I hate your guts” camp. The storyline moves more into the direction of the beginning of the series and while there is sex, it doesn’t feel as all consuming in this book as it did in the two previous. Anita is hurt a lot, Jean Claude and Richard are hurt a lot…..a nerve wracking, bite your nails off to the last page kinda affair. A must read for all you Anita Blake fans.
